Job Description
- Analyzing global and regional macroeconomic trends and evaluating their specific impacts on Vietnam. Propose data-driven economic recommendations and outlooks for the firm and its partners/stakeholders to maximize investment performance and strategic partnerships, leveraging robust literature research and data analysis.
Key Requirements
- Professional Background: Outstanding analytical mindset, a strong academic foundation, and/or a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in high-pressure environments (e.g., investment firms, banking, consulting).
- Industry Experience: At least 5 years of experience as an Economist, preferably within the financial services sector; prior experience in trade and development economics is highly advantageous.
- Education: Advanced degree (Master’s or higher is a distinct plus) in Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or related quantitative fields from a reputable university.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with econometric modeling and macroeconomic concepts (e.g., IS-LM frameworks) is an advantage but not mandatory.
- Certifications: Background in equity research and a CFA charterholder designation are strong pluses.
- Communication Skills: Excellent presentation skills with high public speaking confidence.
- Research Expertise: Proven track record in preparing and presenting research reports for the financial sector; profound knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, particularly econometrics and operations research.
- Cultural Agility: Capable of working and communicating effectively in a multicultural environment; highly adaptable to change; thorough understanding of the research landscape in Vietnam.
- External Relations: Demonstrated ability to engage with government officials, multinational corporations, banks, and institutional investors to present economic forecasts and analysis.
- Data Analytical Skills: Proficiency in analytical techniques such as statistics, econometrics, mathematical tools, and operations research; strong capability to derive logical conclusions from complex financial and economic datasets.
- Language Proficiency: Fully bilingual in English and Vietnamese; exceptional written and verbal English communication skills.
- Soft Skills: Highly self-motivated with a strong work ethic and a robust continuous learning mindset.
Role Responsibilities
- Macroeconomic Analysis: Conduct in-depth research on global and Vietnamese macroeconomics to provide the investment team with clear, actionable insights into economic outlooks.
- Policy Impact Evaluation: Assist the Chief Economist in executing comprehensive economic analyses to assess the impacts of new policies, programs, and initiatives from both foreign countries and domestic authorities on Vietnam.
- Economic Modeling: Build and apply econometric models and quantitative techniques to evaluate trends, forecasts, and scenarios that align with the firm’s investment philosophy.
- Sector Research: Perform deep-dive analysis on selected economic sectors to identify strategic investment opportunities for the firm and potential investors.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with the Marketing department and relevant divisions to prepare and deliver economic presentations/speeches for local partners, stakeholders, and commercial banks.
- Network Building: Maintain strong professional relationships with commercial bank treasury desks, government officials, and industry leaders to identify emerging economic trends early.
- Internal Collaboration: Partner with research and investment team members to share internal insights regarding economic trends that affect active investments or monitored portfolio companies.
- Data Reporting: Research, compile, and report economic and financial data directly to the Chief Economist.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Work closely with cross-functional teams (researchers, analysts, Heads of Funds) to ensure economic analyses support overall organizational goals.
- Strategic Decision Support: Analyze macro and microeconomic data to facilitate corporate strategic planning and investment decision-making.
- Insights Communication: Translate complex economic concepts and analysis results into clear, understandable insights for non-technical audiences, including senior management and external stakeholders.
- Ad-hoc Duties: Execute other related tasks and projects as assigned by the leadership.
